Mohe Arctic Village 北极村

Mohe Arctic Village Scenic Area, officially known as the Daxing'anling Region Arctic Village Scenic Area, is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, renowned as the "Crown of the Golden Rooster," the "North Pole of China," and the "City of No Night," being the northernmost tourist attraction in China.

Geographic Location and Transportation

 

Location: Arctic Village is located in Beiji Town, Mohe City, Daxing'anling Region, Heilongjiang Province, nestled at the foot of Qixing Mountain in the northern foothills of the Daxing'anling Mountains, 77 kilometers away from Mohe City, and overlooking Ignasyino Village in Russia across the river.

 

Natural Environment and Climate

 

Natural Environment: Arctic Village is surrounded by natural mountains such as Qixing Mountain and Yuanbao Mountain. The plains are vast with evenly distributed forests. The vegetation and ecological environment within the scenic area are well-preserved, with a wide variety of wild plants.

Climate: Arctic Village belongs to a high-cold climate zone with an annual average temperature of around -5°C. In winter, the extreme minimum temperature can reach below -50°C. The frost-free period is about 90 days, and the monthly average temperature is below 0°C for seven months. The diurnal temperature variation is large, earning it the title of "Four Seasons in One Day."

 

Historical Culture and Folk Customs

 

Historical Development: Arctic Village (formerly known as Mohe Village) was established in the 10th year of Emperor Xianfeng's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1860), boasting a long history. It once served as a river post, the residence of the administrative office, etc. After Mohe was re-established as a county in 1981, Mohe Village became the seat of today's Mohe Township government.

Folk Customs: Arctic Village is characterized by its honest and simple folk customs and rich local flavor. Tourists can experience the local fishing and hunting culture, farming culture, and unique aurora culture here. Additionally, Arctic Village is the location of China's "Northernmost Guard Post," where tourists can visit the post and feel the heroism and perseverance of the border guards.

 

Main Attractions and Activities

 

Main Attractions: Arctic Village boasts numerous famous attractions, such as Arctic Santa Claus Village, Shenzhou Beiji Square, Mohe Stone Forest, and Linhai Guanyin Mountain. In addition, there are historical and cultural relics such as the "Shenzhou Beiji" stone monument, ancient water wells, Japanese-occupied power plant sites, the Northernmost First Home, and Chinese border markers.

Activities: Tourists can enjoy the best observation points for auroras and white nights in Arctic Village. During summer's polar day, they can play chess, basketball, and engage in other activities outdoors. In winter, they can experience skiing, ice fishing, and other snow and ice activities. Moreover, they can taste local specialties such as river fish stewed in river water.
