Jilin Province

Jilin Province is located in the central part of Northeast China, bordering Russia and North Korea. It is situated at the geographical center of Northeast Asia. The terrain slopes from southeast to northwest, featuring higher elevations in the southeast and lower elevations in the northwest. The province has a temperate continental monsoon climate. The formation of Jilin's landforms is primarily influenced by external forces such as glaciers, running water, wind, and other climatic and meteorological factors.

Traces of glacial erosion from the Quaternary period are still visible in the Changbai Mountains. Modern fluvial erosion has a widespread impact on the landscape. Various landforms such as mountains, hills, terraces, plains, basins, and valleys are shaped by processes of erosion, weathering, deposition, and alluvial accumulation, forming diverse fluvial landforms like floodplains, alluvial fans, and gullies. Volcanic landforms account for 8.6% of the province's total area, fluvial landforms for 83.5%, lacustrine landforms for 2.6%, and aeolian (wind-formed) landforms for about 5.2%.

Jilin Province is a national pilot province for ecological development. The Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve has been designated by the United Nations as a "Man and Biosphere" nature reserve.
